Important Hydrophilic HCPCS Changes â Effective January 1, 2026
CMS has introduced new, more specific HCPCS codes for hydrophilic intermittent urinary catheters and updated descriptors for existing catheter codes. Below is a quick reference for both changes.
New HCPCS Codes
CMS has introduced new, more specific codes to distinguish hydrophilic catheters from coated or uncoated options:
- A4295 â Intermittent urinary catheter; straight tip, hydrophilic coating
- A4296 â Intermittent urinary catheter; coude (curved) tip, hydrophilic coating
- A4297 â Intermittent urinary catheter; hydrophilic coating, with insertion supplies
Updated Descriptors for Existing Catheter Codes
To align with the new hydrophilic codes, CMS updated the descriptors for existing intermittent catheter codes to include “with or without coating”.
- A4351 â Intermittent urinary catheter, straight tip, with or without coating
- A4352 â Intermittent urinary catheter, coude (curved) tip, with or without coating
- A4353 â Intermittent urinary catheter, with or without coating, with insertion supplies
