
Course Description
This course reviews carbohydrate counting for the diabetes patient. Examined are the role
carbohydrates
play in the management of blood glucose, how best to maximize control over blood glucose
levels using
precise measurements of carbohydrates, and the benefits this approach can have on diabetes
disease
management, body weight, and overall quality of life. The program focuses on two concepts:
basic
carbohydrate counting as a way to keep blood glucose levels consistent, and advanced
carbohydrate
counting which is used to help calculate insulin doses.
